KORN
From California. Led by Jonathan "HIV" Davis (vocals) with Reginald "Fieldy Snuts" Arvizu (bass), Brian "Head" Welch (guitar), James "Munky" Shaffer (guitar) and David Silvera (drums). More metal than alternative, this band of nonconformists plowed their way headfirst into America's teen angst. Radio didn't quite know what to do with them for a while, but then their sound was stolen by many lesser bands which managed to get the radio exposure that Korn could not. This necessitated a revamping of their overall approach and sound and they accomplished this successfully by their fifth album. Interestingly, maybe the world has caught up with them after all because they are more metallic and industrial sounding than ever. The band then won a Grammy Award for best metal performance. As the musical climate changed, Korn again found itself with little radio airplay. Davis is also known for his engagement to former pornographic actress Deven Davis. In 2004, Brian Welch left the band abruptly after announcing that he had become a born again Christian! 1994-present.
