KON KAN
From Toronto, Canada. D.J. Barry Harris parlayed his sampling technique into a record contract by mixing total opposites together (Nancy Sinatra and Led Zeppelin for example). The band's name is slang for "con can" which is apparently short for the words content Canadian. The Canadian content rule is the annoying broadcasting law in Canada that ensures all radio stations play at least 30% original Canadian music. This law was brought about to keep Canadian culture fresh and not too influenced by the power of the American music industry. After the group's demise, Harris formed Outta Control and then went solo under his own name. He came back again as Thunderpuss in 2000 and now continues as an ace producer/remixer under his own Barry Harris Productions company. 1988-93.
