THE KLF
From Liverpool, England but originally from Scotland. Led by Bill Drummond and partner Jim Cauty. Drummond had a long history as a member of Big In Japan as well as managing Echo & The Bunnymen and The Teardrop Explodes while Cauty was a former member of Zodiac Mindwarp & The Love Reaction. This techno act kept releasing singles under many different names (The Jams, The Timelords, Justified Ancients Of MuMu, Disco 2000, etc.) which helped keep their approach fresh. The name of the band stands for Kopyright Liberation Front. In 1994 they staged a publicity stunt (???) where they openly burned their life savings (about $1,500,000). No one knows quite why. Early band member Alex Patterson now leads The Orb. After five years, The KLF returned in 1997 with the single "Fuck The Millenium". 1987-92/1997.
