KING CRIMSON
From Bournemouth, England. Formed in 1969 by Robert Fripp with Bill Bruford, Greg Lake, John Wetton and a few other progressive rock stalwarts. This band combined all the artier points of their later bands (Yes, ELP, Asia, etc.) into one art rock giant. Fripp led the band for five years before shutting it down intentionally. The band's biggest hit was "21st Century Schizoid Man" which featured Greg Lake on vocals. Fripp of course went on to a prolific solo career, then encouraged by his modern rock side project, The League Of Gentleman, he called the king back to court. The new version of the band was comprised of Robert Fripp (guitar), Adrian Belew (vocals/guitar), Tony Levin (bass) and Bill Bruford (drums). This version of the band soared higher and further than before, grasping new wave and applying it to the Crimson legend. Three albums and then nothing until the band formed again in 1994. Fripp formed what he calls a "double trio" by adding in new members Trey Gunn (bass) and Pat Mastelotto (percussion). Now he grabs future technology and embraces it with the announcement of a series of King Crimson albums that will only be available through the internet fan club. 1969-74/1981-84/1994-present.
