PAUL KELLY
From Adelaide, Australia. A hard rockin' acoustic artist from down under, Kelly's backing band were originally called The Coloured Girls (as in the line from Lou Reed's "Walk On The Wild Side") but changed to The Messengers to avoid controversy. The name of his backing band has changed again and again over the years, but Kelly's longevity as a solo artist has made him one of Australia's biggest rock artists. Hardly known in the U.S., after 25 albums, Kelly has explored both the harder and softer sides of acoustic rock and in recent years has dabbled in country, bluegrass and spiritual themes. 1979-present.
