KATRINA & THE WAVES
From England. Led by Katrina Leskanich (vocals/guitar) and ex-Soft Boy Kimberly Rew (guitar/keyboards) with Vince De La Cruz (bass) and Alex Cooper (drums). Katrina is originally from Levenworth, Kansas. The Waves found early success with their song "Going Down To Liverpool" which was covered and made a hit in the U.S. by The Bangles. They went on to have a major smash with "Walking On Sunshine" but a change in labels and a blues slant took away their pop potential. The name of the band (The Waves) is from the book of the same title by Virginia Woolf, a distant relative of Alex Cooper! After the band won the 1997 Eurovision song contest, the lack of interest by British radio that followed discouraged the group and they called it a day in 1998. In 2004, Katrina released her first solo disc via her website. Almost incredibly, the rest of the band reformed and used the name Katrina & The Waves WITHOUT Katrina! She was replaced by singer Lynda Hayes for a series of live dates before the band folded again. 1983-97.
