THE JAYHAWKS
From Minneapolis, Minnesota. Led by Mark Olson (vocals/guitar) with Gary Louris (vocals/guitar), Marc Perlman (bass), Karen Grothberg (keyboards) and Tim O'Reagan (drums). About as close as you're going to get to finding a true country/modern rock hybrid band in the 90's. Neither "cowpunk" or "no depression", their style must be sampled by sitting down and listening to a whole album to really get the idea. In 1995, Olson defected but the band continued on without him. Former Long Ryders guitarist Stephen McCarthy then played with the group until the band unofficially broke up in 2005. About the same time, Louris and Olson reunited for concert tours as a duo and then released an album together in 2008. 1986-2003.
