JANE'S ADDICTION
From Los Angeles. Led by Perry Farrell (Perry Bernstein)(vocals) with Eric Avery (bass), Dave Navarro (guitar) and Steven Perkins (drums). A big cult following in California before catching on nationally, the group lasted for three albums before Farrell and Perkins formed the similar sounding Porno For Pyros. The band had a reunion in 1997 resulting in a few new tracks, Avery replaced by Flea of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Chris Chaney replaced Flea as bassist for the group. Navarro went on to play with Deconstruction, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and has released a solo album. Farrell also had a previous release with the gothic band Psi-Com. All in the family, Perry's older brother also sang vocals for a short period with The Left Banke (a classic pop group of the 60's, known for their hit "Walk Away Renee"). In the late 1980's, Jane's Addiction were arguably one of the biggest American alternative acts to come about before the onslaught of the grunge movement. With grunge laid into musical history, the band came back looking to find a niche, but differences within the band quickly split it apart again. Navarro married model Carmen Electra and chronicled it with an M-TV show "Dave & Carmen: 'Til Death Do Us Part". Such reality TV follies usually signal the kiss of death to any marriage and theirs was no exception, they divorced in 2007. Navarro went on to form The Panic Channel with Stephen Perkins, the club band Camp Freddy, and served as a host of the televison show "Rock Star", while Farrell formed The Satellite Party and continued to expand and revive the dormant Lollapalooza festival. Finally, in 2009 the original band line-up reunited to headline Lollapalooza and record new material. 1987-90/1997/2003/2009-present.
