THE JAM

From Woking, England. Led by Paul Weller (vocals/guitar) with Bruce Foxton (bass) and Rick Buckler (drums). The Jam were responsible for putting out some of the best punk rock the UK had to offer, influenced by the mod Bands of the 60's and a healthy dose of Motown! Formed while Weller was still a teen, their "In The City" was ripped off almost note for note by The Sex Pistols for their song "Holidays In The Sun". When The Jam had taken their sound as far as they could, Weller split the band up to form The Style Council and explore soul a little heavier. Foxton tried a brief solo career and now plays in Stiff Little Fingers. Weller eventually went solo in 1992. In 1996, Buckler and Foxton sued Weller for a bigger share of The Jam's royalties. Halfway through the hearing, Weller gave in and gave them 100,000 pounds to split between the two of them, effectively also ending their friendships and making the possibility of a reunion an impossibility. 1977-82.
