INFORMATION SOCIETY

From Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Led by Paul Robb and Kurt Harland (vocals/multi-instrumentalist) with Jim Cassidy and Amanda Kramer.  The U.S.'s first response to European techno bands came in the form of a song that sampled dialogue from "Star Trek".  The song; "What's On Your Mind" started them on a path that mined the sounds of techno, some theirs, some sampled.  Known by many as "InSoc", the band had already existed five years before their first chart success.  Their successful run ended when the band drifted apart around 1993.  Kramer left after only two years with the group and now plays out with The Psychedelic Furs.  Robb went on to a career in music production.  Cassidy earned a masters degree in science, and Harland took over the band name, making one more album as Information Society in 1997 before settling in with a computer games company as a music developer.   In 2006, a reunion set up by the VH-1 tv show "Bands Reunited" resulted in no reunion at all but it did set up a line of communication between all the former members of the band, renewing friendships and eventually allowing a new version of Information Society to exist.  In 2006, Harland turned over the band name to Robb who then proceeded to find a new (if similar sounding) singer and by 2007, new recorded work from Information Society appeared on the internet and in music stores.  1983-93/1997/2007-present.
