HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH
From Charleston, South Carolina. Led by Darius Rucker (vocals/guitar) with Mark Bryan (guitar), Dean Felber (bass) and Jim "Soni" Sonefeld (drums). Southern based mainstream album rock has a slight R.E.M. feel to it at times, nothing really alternative here but a mainstay of modern rock radio during the 90's. After their initial success, their sales and popularity plummeted. Rucker released a solo album in 2002 in an attempt to break free from Hootie's shortcomings, only complicating the matter by releasing an album of soul attempts that just didn't suit the singer's style. 1991-present.
