GOMEZ
From Southport, England. Led by Ben Ottewell (vocals) with Ian Ball (guitar/harmonica), Tom Gray (guitar/keyboards), Paul Blackburn (bass) and Olly Peacock (drums). The band accidentally named themselves at an early gig when they left a message for a friend on the outside of the club door that read "Gomez - the gig is in here". People thought that it was the name of the band so they tried Gomez Kill Kill The Vortex next but eventually just went with the name Gomez. In England they have also won the acclaimed Mercury Music Prize music award. In America, the band is still widely unknown save for their excellent cover version of The Beatles' "Getting Better" which appeared regularly in a Philips Electronics television ad campaign. 1998-present.
