GENERAL PUBLIC
From Birmingham, England. Formed by Ranking Roger (vocals) and Dave Wakeling (vocals/guitar) after splitting up The English Beat with Horace Panter (bass) and Mickey Billingham (keyboards). A much more pop sounding group than The Beat were, Panter came on board from The Specials while Billingham joined from Dexy's Midnight Runners. The group lasted two albums, then years later Dave and Roger reunited to cover a song by The Staple Singers ("I'll Take You There") for the soundtrack of the movie "Threesome". It became a hit and encouraged them to reunite for one more album. As of 1996, Wakeling is busy with his own band Bang! and Roger joined Big Audio Dynamite. Later, Roger would for a new version of The Beat that tours England today. 1984-86/1994-95.
