From Glasgow, Scotland, UK. Led by Alexander Kapranos (vocals/guitar) and Robert Hardy (bass) with Nicholas McCarthy (guitar/keyboards) and Paul Thomson (drums). This band seemingly came out of nowhere in 2003 and stormed the British charts. Still not slapped with the typical UK backlash from the press, the band stands a solid chance of breaking through on a worldwide basis. Named after the Austro-Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand whose assassination triggered World War I. 2003-present.
