THE FLAMIN' GROOVIES
From San Francisco, California. Led by Cyril Jordan (vocals) with George Alexander (bass), Jack Johnson (guitar) and Paul Zahl (drums). Formed in 1965, and heavily influenced by The Beatles, this power pop band were lost in the peace and love era, both before and after their time. Their influence however is far reaching and covered by many bands. Their most popular songs to date: "Teenage Head", "Slow Death" and "Shake Some Action". The band was originally co-led by Jordan and Roy Loney who retired from the scene in 1971 after forming The Phantom Movers. The band continued to play and record for many years, never altering their vintage guitar jangle and becoming an influence on many jangle pop bands that followed in the wake of new wave. The band has been inactive since 1990 though never officially retired the band's name. 1968-92.
