MARIANNE FAITHFULL
From Hampstead, England. The daughter of a British intelligence agent father and a Baroness mother, Faithfull was the original swinging 60's mod girl. A pop singer and actress through the promotion efforts of her then boyfriend, Mick Jagger. Her best known 60's hit was "As Tears Go By" which the Stones later covered. As years go by, is a better title for what happened next. For most of the 70's and part of the 80's Faithfull was a hopeless heroin addict, sometimes living in squalor, sometimes suicidal. In 1979, she came out of nowhere with a stunning album of modern rock, her voice hardened through the years into a new instrument. Her best known work came from the album "Broken English". They say every musician has one good album in them and few are lucky to have the songs all happen at once like Marianne did. In recent years she has appeared in stage productions, movies, and turns up in guest appearances like in the video for Metallica's "The Memory Remains". Her recent music features collaborations with top musical admirers such as Billy Corgan, Beck, Dave Stewart, PJ Harvey and Nick Cave. Marianne also has the dubious trivia achievement of being the first person to utter the "F" word in a movie. In 2006, Marianne was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer which forced her to cancel a tour and she has since been receiving treatment. 1964-present.
