FAIRGROUND ATTRACTION
From London. Led by Eddie Reader (vocals) and Mark E. Nevin (guitar), with Simon Edwards (bass) and Roy Dodd (drums). Nevin was a member of Jayne Aire and The Belvederes. Reader had previously backed Eurythmics, Alison Moyet and Gang Of Four. Folksy, a little bit rockabilly and skiffle, it was fun while it lasted. The group originally released a few songs as The Academy Of Fine Popular Music. When Reader left, the band renamed itself as Sweetmouth and added a male vocalist instead, but flopped. Reader has since made three solo cds and Nevin has made two, continuing to bloom as a songwriter. Nevin's compositions have been covered by Joe Cocker, David Bowie, Lloyd Cole, Morrissey, Ringo Starr and others. 1988-89.
