EVERCLEAR
From Portland, Oregon. Led by Art Alexakis (vocals/guitar) with Craig Montoya (bass) and Greg Eklund (drums). Art was previously the singer in San Francisco alterna-country band Colorfinger who released one full length cd. Alexakis is a former substance abuser who is now an anti drug advocate. An overdose took the life of his older brother, but a near death overdose on himself got him to change his ways. Their music, spare and similar sounding is still powerful and pleasing, each new album expands the formula a little more. By 2004, Alexakis was alone, fronting Everclear with a new rhythm section rather than continue as a solo under his own name. The new members of the band are: Dave French, Sam Hudson, and Brett Snyder. 2005 was another hard year as Alexakis claimed bankruptcy with debts totaling close to 3 million dollars. Before the 2008 presidential election, Art made a defining statement about his political views with the release of the internet only single "Jesus Was A Democrat". 1993-present.
