ELASTICA
From London. Led by Justine Frischmann (vocals/guitar) with Paul "Shag" Jones (guitar), Sheila Chipperfield (bass), Mew (keyboards) and Justin Welsh (drums). One of the bright lights of the Britpop movement. Justine was a former founding guitarist for Suede and had been romantically involved with both the singers of Suede and Blur. The band got involved into several lawsuits for plagiarism after their debut album, losing to both The Stranglers and Wire in the courts. After half a decade and several personnel changes, including the loss of founding guitarist Donna Matthews, the band reemerged with a new album in 2000. Despite a spirited follow-up, the group disbanded in 2001. Frischmann quit music and moved to the United States where she married a college professor and now concentrates on art. Matthews found religion and is heavily involved in her church. 1994-2001.
