ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN

From Liverpool, England. Led by Ian McCulloch (vocals/guitar) with Will Sergeant (guitar), Les Pattenson (bass) and Pete DeFrietas (drums). The echo in the name comes from the nickname they gave to their drum machine. Dense, multi-layered new wave music that had its own place in the 80's. Moody vocals by McCulloch, reminiscent of Jim Morrison at times, the band has even covered The Doors' "People Are Strange". Member Pete DeFrietas was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1989. Leader McCulloch gave up the group for a solo career in 1988 and was replaced on vocals for one album by vocalist Noel Burke. The band then faded away into history when Sergeant and McCulloch mended fences and formed Electrafixion for one album. This worked well so they reclaimed their old name and released a new album in 1997. The band has since produced several discs with many tours, furthering the next chapter of their career. 1979-90/1997-present.
