IAN DURY & THE BLOCKHEADS

From Billericay, England.  Led by Ian Dury (vocals) with Norman Watt-Roy (bass), Davey Payne (saxophone), John Turbull (guitar), Mickey Gallagher (keyboards), Charley Charles (drums) and Chaz Jankel (guitar).  A former school teacher and polio survivor, Ian began his career around 1970 with pub rockers Kilburn & The High Roads.  Dury took a break from the music scene in 1982 and mounted a successful comeback in 1991.  Blockhead Chaz Jankel began a minor solo career in the mid-80's that has extended to today.  The Blockheads reformed in 1997 in their original line up save for Charles who died of cancer.  That same year, Dury himself was diagnosed with colon cancer but continued to record and tour right up to the end.  He died March 27, 2000 at age 57.  In a move somewhat reminiscent of The Doors, The Blockheads have decided to continue on as both a recording and touring entity while Ian's son Baxter Dury has released an album and begins a new legacy.  1975-1999.
