DURAN DURAN
From Birmingham, England. Led by Nick Rhodes (Nick Bates)(keyboards) and John Taylor (Nigel Taylor)(bass) with Simon LeBon (vocals), Andy Taylor (guitar) and Roger Taylor (drums). The band derive their name from the antagonist in the cult movie "Barbarella". In their prerecording days, Stephen Duffy was the vocalist, who later had several solo hits and also formed the popular band The Lilac Time. Immense superstars in the first days of music television, they arguably suffered from a 1980's version of Beatlemania! A split within the band created temporary side projects in 1985. Rhodes and LeBon formed Arcadia while John Taylor and Andy Taylor created The Power Station with Robert Palmer. In 1986, original drummer Roger Taylor left the group citing exhaustion while guitarist Andy Taylor left for a solo career. Warren Cuccurullo of Missing Persons joined on as Andy's replacement for six albums. In 1997, John Taylor also left for the pursuit of solo work, forming The Neurotic Outsiders. This left Nick Rhodes as the only original remaining member of the band. On that note, the original popular line-up of LeBon/Taylor/Taylor/Taylor and Rhodes have reunited for the first time since 1986 to record a new album. Before any new music was released though, Rhodes reunited with Duffy to recreate the original band intentions and released an album as The Devils. 1981-present.
