THE

photo: Greg Allen
From Los Angeles. Led by Steve Wynn (vocals/guitar) with Kendra Smith (bass), Karl Precoda (guitar) and Dennis Duck (drums). This psychedelic outfit was part of the southern California "paisley underground" scene. Formed in 1980, they named themselves after the band that would later become The Velvet Underground. By the final album, Wynn was the only remaining original member. Wynn went on to a solo career and the collaborative band Gutterball. He had previously been a member of The Long Ryders. Smith has a nice solo career as well, first forming Opal which later mutated into Mazzy Star, then releasing solo albums. 1982-88.
