From England. Led by Nick Laird-Clowes (vocals/guitar) with Kate St. John (reeds/woodwinds) and Gilbert Gabriel (keyboards). Taking the word "dream" literally, everything this band made had a dreamy quality to it. Laird-Clowes started with his band The Act and released one album with them before forming The Dream Academy. David Gilmour of Pink Floyd produced the first album and remained a staunch supporter. Now in the days after the group's demise, Laird-Clowes and Gilmour are writing partners on Pink Floyd's latest songs. Kate St. John went on to a solo career and is married to Sid Griffin of The Long Ryders. 1985-90.
