DEPECHE MODE
From Basildon, England. Led by Dave Gahan (vocals) with Martin Gore (vocals/keyboards/guitar), and Andy Fletcher (guitar). The band began as a five piece, part of the new romantic movement, and became the biggest synthpop band of the new wave. Originally led by Vince Clarke, Clarke decided he wasn't happy and left in 1982 to eventually form Yaz (Yazoo) and Erasure. Original drummer Alan Wilder left after a long period of working more in the band's management than actually playing within the group. Wilder has found success with his project entitled Recoil. In 1995, Gahan had a failed suicide attempt and has since cleaned up his act. The band's future was in doubt for a time but now seems more definite. Changing styles in music however finally forced them off the airwaves, yet they continue to search for new ground in the new century. 1981-present.
