Bellingham, Washington.
Led by Ben Gibbard (vocals/guitar) with Chris Walla (guitar), Nicholas
Harmer (bass)
and Jason McGerr (drums). Originally a solo
project by Gibbard, the one man act expanded into a band after Gibbard
signed to a recording contract. Experimental in nature,
the group plays well arranged indy pop with largely romantic
lyrics. The band's name comes from a song by the Bonzo Dog
Doo-Dah Band who perform the number in The Beatles' film "Magical
Mystery Tour". As of 2009, Gibbard is married to actress Zooey
Deschanel. 1997-present.
