THE DEAD KENNEDYS
From San Francisco, California. Led by Jello Biafra (Eric Boucher)(vocals) with East Bay Ray (Ray Glasser aka Ray Pepperell)(guitar), Klaus Flouride (Geoffrey Lyall)(bass) and D.H. Peligro (Darren Henley)(drums). One of America's great punk bands. They came to a disappointing end after a lengthy freedom of speech court battle brought about by the release of their album "Frankenchrist" which featured a poster by artist H.R.Giger of abstract penises entering abstract anuses. Biafra ran for mayor of San Francisco in 1979 and actually placed fourth in the contest. Biafra took his own personal act in a more industrial direction by playing in Lard and as a solo act. In 1994 he was brutally attacked by newer punks at a show he was attending that had no idea who he was. The new always destroys the old somehow. Recent years have resulted in an ugly court battle between Biafra and the other members regarding use of the band name and royalty distribution. Biafra came out on the losing end while the other members can now play out and release new music under the band name if they choose. 1978-87.
