MARTHA DAVIS

From California. The leader of The Motels since its inception as The Warfield Foxes back in 1971. Martha's persistence with her band The Motels paid off in the late 70's when they found acceptance within the new wave community. However by the time M-TV popularity had set in they quickly switched gears to a much more commercial pop sound which continued up to the failed sessions for their last album. This uncompleted work was adjusted to become Martha's first solo album without the group. It received moderate airplay at best but definitely had the trademark Motels sound about it. Her solo career however came to a screeching halt when she was diagnosed with cancer and after several years of treatment, she entered remission. The 1990's found her getting her feet wet again with live performances under the name Martha Davis Jr. and an eventual reformation of The Motels where she leads a whole new group of players under the old band name. It took Martha almost twenty years to finally release a second solo disc. 1988/2005-present.
