ALICE COOPER
From Detroit, Michigan. Alice Cooper (Vincent Furnier) was the original shock rocker, a major inspiration to future ghouls like Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie. Known for his early anthems ("Elected", "School's Out", "I'm Eighteen"), Alice Cooper was a group name up until the "Muscle Of Love" album, at which point Alice went solo. Alice got his first Top 40 hit with a ballad ("Only Women Bleed"). As an early leader of American glam rock, his make-up and clothing predated The New York Dolls and Kiss by several years. Feeling trapped by his image, Alice gave himself a visual and musical makeover and dived head first into new wave for four albums which yielded the classic "Clones", which was later covered by Smashing Pumpkins. His audience didn't quite take to the change so he explored a hard rock/heavy metal audience next. What his next move will be is hard to say at this point. He's a little too old for more musical changes and he is becoming more known for his love of golf, than his love of rock! 1969-present.
