ALEX CHILTON

From Memphis, Tennessee.  Alex Chilton (vocals/guitar) is a rock icon of the best kind.  He began at age 16 with 60's band The Boxtops and sang their biggest hit "The Letter" in 1967.  In the 70's he formed Big Star, one of the most influential power pop bands of the decade.  As a solo artist, he has taken his career a little less seriously, even recording cheesy schmaltz like a cover of "Volare".  He has toured with reformed line-ups of both The Boxtops and Big Star during the 90's.  On March 17, 2010, Alex Chilton suddenly passed away from a heart attack at age 59.  1967-2005.
