PAUL CARRACK
From Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. Paul Carrack (vocals/keyboards) began recording as early as 1970 with the group Warm Dust but came to prominence in the pub rock band Ace during the seventies and gave vocals to their one classic tune "How Long". A mainstream success on both sides of the Atlantic, Carrack gained confidence and soon lent his keyboard talents to many bands, sharing vocals wherever possible. He spent two years as a touring keyboardist for Roxy Music before attempting a full solo career. His first solo album gained little notice prompting him to join Squeeze as a replacement for departing keyboardist Jools Holland. His lead vocals on their song "Tempted" again landed a solid hit for him and he departed the band to create his Nick Lowe produced solo album "Suburban Voodoo" which yielded another minor hit "I Need You". His next move was to join Genesis guitar player Mike Rutherford in his side project; Mike+The Mechanics. Carrack again voiced several hits for that band, still issuing solo releases on the side and eventually returned to Squeeze for a period as well. These days he still concentrates on solo issues but is like a musical butterfly, never content to rest in one spot. He has contributed his keyboard talents to recordings by The Pretenders, The Smiths, The Undertones, Paul Young and others! 1970-present.
