CABARET VOLTAIRE
From Sheffield, England. Led by Richard H. Kirk (guitar/programming) and Stephen Mallinder (vocals/programming) with Chris Watson (sampling). One of the earliest industrial bands, formed in 1973. One of the main forces in progressing early industrial into house, ambient and beyond. Always several years in vision before their contemporaries, some trends still haven't caught up with them! The group named themselves after a dadaist nightclub of the early 1900's. Watson left the group around 1983. Mallinder left for Australia in 1993 effectively ending the remaining duo. Kirk continues to release new material but no longer uses the Cabaret Voltaire name. Instead, each new release bears a different manufactured name. 1978-93.
