CREED

From Orlando, Florida. Led by Scott Stapp (vocals) with Mark Tremonti (guitar), Brian Marshall (bass) and Scott Phillips (drums). Further disciples in the school of Soundgarden. Like the other bands coming from Florida these days (Matchbox 20, Seven Mary Three), Creed plays a generic form of grunge that is so close to mainstream rock it's embarrassing. Still mainstream means mass success and they seem to have obtained that quickly. Marshall was dismissed from the band after making public comments slamming Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam and was then replaced. On June 4, 2004 Creed announced they were breaking up over the usual creative differences. Tremonti, Phillips and Marshall regrouped immediately as Alter Bridge adding singer Myles Kennedy (ex-Mayfield Four). Stapp chose Canadian alternative band The Tea Party to be his backing group on his first solo cd. In 2009 the band reunited for a tour and a new album. 1997-2003/2009-present.
