From
Akron, Ohio and then relocated to New York City.
Formed in Sacramento, California in 1972, Lux Interior (Erick
Purkhiser) (vocals/guitar) and Poison Ivy
Rorscach (Christine Wallace) (vocals/guitar) started as a duo in love
with kitsch culture and each other. They moved to Ohio and
created the Cramps, whose voodoo inspired
version of rockabilly became known as "psychobilly" and can be heard
even today in the works of others like the Rev. Horton Heat.
Strange, psychotic fun inspired by mixing punk with Screamin'
Jay Hawkins. As the years passed, many support
members would come and go/ Original guitarist Bryan
Gregory who gave the band part of their creepy
image died in 2001 at age 46 after suffering from health problems.
Lux Interior died from a heart condition in January 2009 at age
60. The Cramps were one of the longest lived punk bands from the
original NYC
punk scene!
