From Hollywood, California. Led by Jim Mankey (bass) with Johnette Napolitano (vocals) and Harry Rushakoff (drums). The group formed in 1982 under the name Dream 6 and released one album under that name. Changing their name for their first full length release to a name suggested by Michael Stipe of R.E.M., Concrete Blonde quickly made its mark on alternative radio. Napolitano's rich, deep voice is unlike any other singer, save for when she really belts one out and is reminiscent of Grace Slick in her Jefferson Airplane days. After announcing a band break-up in 1994, Mankey & Napolitano mysteriously came back three years later on a recorded collaboration with Los Illegals. Finally in 2002, the trio reunited and released new music. 1982-93/1997/2002-present.
