TONI CHILDS
From Orange County, California. Toni Childs (vocals) is a fine singer/songwriter who originally led the band Berlin in its pre-recording days. She has created a distinctive if somewhat unknown solo career making her biggest impact on the radio with her debut album. Childs' delivery of a song has a soulful impact and she's reminiscent of moody jazz and blues singers of old. In 1997 she was diagnosed with Graves Disease and retreated to a quieter life in Hawaii. In 2004, she won an Emmy award for her song "Because You're Beautiful", a contribution to a documentary on violence. This has helped her re-iginite her interest in recording and she is due for a 2006 release of new material. While technically neither an alternative rock artist or a pop artist, her version of world music is indeed unique and alternative in its own right. 1988-present.
