From Cleveland, Ohio. Tracy Chapman (vocals/guitar) was the first of the modern alternative folk singers (along with Suzanne Vega) to find quick success. Her inclusion on the 1989 Amnesty International World Tour alongside Peter Gabriel and Bruce Springsteen lifted her into a stellar league of musicians. All a little too quick and overwhelming for Chapman, her follow up efforts were lauded but lacked a certain maturity that she was yet to earn. Eight years later, Tracy came back in a big way with her simple blues based "Give Me One Reason" and the world discovered Tracy Chapman again! Her songs have been covered by performers as diverse in range from Neil Diamond to Jewel. 1988-present.
