From London. Led by Nick Richards (vocals) and Brian Chatton (keyboards) with Nico Ramsden (guitar), Mark Smith (bass) and Jeff Seopardie (drums). A true one hit wonder, the band's quirky "I Wanna Be A Cowboy" was strictly borderline dance fluff. More pop rock than new wave, their follow-up single was fairly standard stuff and failed to make an impression on the charts. The band did however claim a spot in chart history when the single became the first independent single to take the number one spot in the Billboard charts in 17 years. Sadly the primary songwriters have spent recent years suing anyone even vaguely including the words "I wanna be a cowboy" in their songs, from Paula Cole to Kid Rock! Mark Smith passed away in 2009 at age 49. Richards formed a new version of the band in 2009 and actually had a radio hit again after 23 years away with the adult contemporary single "Don't Call Me A Country Singer". 1986-88/2009-present.
