THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH
From Hull, England. Led by ex-Housemartins vocalist Paul Heaton (vocals) with Jacqueline Abbott (vocals), Dave Hemmingway (vocals/percussion), David Rotheray (guitar), Sean Welch (bass) and David Stead (drums). While The Housemartins enjoyed great popularity for a short time on both sides of the ocean, The Beautiful South has primarily been popular only in Europe. A unique modern pop sound with heavy 60's pop influences throughout their work, the band lasted an incredible 19 years together before wrapping up the pleasant party. Not ones to dwell on things, the band promptly reformed in 2009 as the New Beautiful South. 1990-2007.
