THE BEASTIE BOYS
From New York City. A trio of: King Ad Rock (Adam Horovitz), MCA (Adam Yauch) and Mike D. (Mike Diamond). Originally a five piece punk band, they became the first successful white rap act. Early members included John Berry on guitar and Kate Schellenbach on drums who later founded Luscious Jackson. Early singles like "Cookie Puss" mined a novelty vein while their first Def Jam 12" single "Rock Hard", broke the genre lines by mixing rap with the guitar hook of AC/DC's "Back In Black". Horovitz has dabbled in acting and was formerly married to "Say Anything" actress Ione Skye, daughter of 60's folk icon Donovan. Today the band continues to break new ground with each album, helping to redefine popular music along the way. Their involvement with Tibetan freedom has resulted in a number of popular fundraising concerts and a friendship with the Dalai Lama. 1982-present.
