BARENAKED LADIES
From Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Led by Ed Robertson
(vocals/guitar) with Steven Page (harmony vocals), Tyler Stewart
(drums), Kevin Hearn (keyboards) and Jim Creggan (bass). A very
funny combo that was the first band to reach platinum status in Canada
with an independent release! Hearn took a hiatus from the band to
be treated for leukemia which is in remission at this point, allowing
him to return the band. There have been many guitar led pop
groups in the history of alternative rock that have had the sound of
this group and even the intellect and wit in lyrics but BNL have
somehow managed to achieve the success that many similar and deserving
bands could never find. They stand as a symbol of success for
power pop in a time when metal and rap dominated the airwaves.
But even a band such as this has had its rock star moments. In
2008, Robertson crashed his airplane and fortunately survived.
Page on the other hand was busted with drugs and underage groupies at a
motel and subsequently quit the band.
