THE BANGLES
From Los Angeles. Led by sisters Vicki Peterson (vocals/guitar) and Debi Peterson (drums) with Susanna Hoffs (vocals/guitar) and Michael Steele (bass). Originally known as The Colours, The Supersonic Bangs, and The Bangs. The band have had some of their greatest successes by covering other bands. First was "Going Down To Liverpool" originally released by Katrina & The Waves and later they topped the charts with a cover of Simon & Garfunkle's "Hazy Shade Of Winter". Steele was a founding member of another great female rock band, The Runaways, and has several solo releases to her credit. Hoffs appeared in a film directed by her mother called "The Allnighter" and has led a solo career after the group's demise. Vicki Peterson joined The Continental Drifters while Debi's group Kindred Spirits have also released recordings. In their time, The Bangles found more popularity than any other all female group of the era, including The Go-Go's! In 1999, The Bangles reunited for live dates and are now an active band again. Hoffs can be seen in the Austin Powers movie series (directed by her husband) as a member of Austin's band "Ming Tea". The Bangles finally released a new album, their first in fourteen years, in late 2002. In 2004, Steele took a hiatus from the group resulting in her departure in May of 2005. Her replacement in the band is new bassist Abby Travis. 1981-88/1999-present.
