BAD BRAINS
From New York City, originally based in Washington D.C. Led by Paul "H.R." Hudson, his name stands for "human rights", with brother Earl Hudson (drums), Darryl Jenifer (bass) and Gary "Dr. Know" Miller (guitar). This band has traveled many paths, formed in 1976 and first dabbling in fusion jazz under the name Mind Power, they changed names and attitude and invented hardcore punk which led to their breakthrough single "Pay To Cum" in 1980. They later tried their hands at reggae and hard rock as well. Both Hudson brothers quit the band and vocals were handled by Israel Joseph I on the "Quickness" album. The Hudsons later rejoined but HR quit after erratic behavior on tour in 1996. The original line-up of the band joined together again as of 1998 under the band name Soul Brains, which eventually gave way back to Bad Brains by the time of their next release in 2007. 1982-present.
