THE BUGGLES

From England.  Led by Trevor Horn (vocals/guitar/bass) and Geoff Downes (keyboards).  Their song "Video Killed The Radio Star" was the first song to ever be played on M-TV, a bit prophetic as the 80's ushered in a whole era of pretty boys and girls in videos.  The music of the band was quirky and a little smarter than some of the new wave of the time.  In an odd invitation, Horn and Downes were asked to replace Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman in the band Yes.  A stalwart progressive band of the previous musical era infused with The Buggles' new wave resulted in an incredible album for all; Yes' "Drama".  After a tour with Yes, Horn returned to The Buggles but Downes stayed behind, eventually becoming a founding member of Asia.  The next Buggles album incorporated one of the songs from the previous Yes album but the progressive influence on The Buggles' new wave didn't quite sound right.  Horn formed ZTT records instead and went on to form The Art Of Noise, produce Malcom McLaren, Seal and many others.  1980-82.
