BOW WOW WOW
From London. Developed by Malcolm McLaren, this band consisted of 14 year old Annabella Lwin (vocals) and ex-Adam & The Ants members Matthew Ashman (guitar), Dave Barbarossa (drums) and Leigh Gorman (bass). As a group, the members were far from happy with McLaren's management, especially when he brought in Lt. Lush (Boy George) into the band as an experiment. A period of productivity followed with several hits but eventually the members fired Annabella and broke up shortly after. During their short time together, they were hyped to the world in the same way McLaren had marketed The Sex Pistols but greeted with cynicism from the public and an outward hatred by the music press. Despite all this, the Ants sound was in place and Annabella was not a bad vocalist. After the split Annabella attempted a solo career, releasing a single now and then. Since she was young at the time, the interest in 80's bands falls at a perfect age for her. Reuniting with Gorman, she relaunched Bow Wow Wow for an American tour in 1998. Barbarossa went on to play with Republica while Ashman sadly died of diabetes complications at age 35 in 1995. The band's biggest hit was their cover of the 1960's Strangeloves hit "I Want Candy". Annabella's full name is Myant-Myant Aye Dunn-Lwin and she was originally born in Rangoon, Burma! In Burmese. Myant Myant Aye translates into Cool Cool High. In 2002, Annabella played out with her new group Tang. 1980-83/1998.
