BLUES TRAVELER
From Princeton, New Jersey. Led by John Popper (vocals/harmonica) with Brendan Hill (drums), Chan Kichla (guitar) and Bobby Sheehan (bass). The founders of the popular H.O.R.D.E. tour, the 90's traveling hippie road show. This band was an underground phenomenon for several years before coming to the attention of the public with their fourth album. Originally called just The Blues Band, they took their latter name from "Gozer The Traveler", a character in the movie "Ghostbusters". Popper was previously in a band with Joan Osborne called Ain't Mozart and is responsible for introducing future members of The Spin Doctors to each other! The band does tend to get into trouble from time to time with Popper arrested on concealed weapon charges in 1996 and Sheehan arrested for drug possession in 1997. In 1999, Popper needed heart surgery due to his overweight size. Also in 1999, Sheehan died at age 31 from a drug overdose. His replacement in the band is Tad Kinchla, Chan's brother. As the jam band surge of interest waned in the late 90's, Blues Traveler has formed a community through the internet and has released many exclusive tracks via the web. 1989-present.
