BLONDIE
From New York City. Led by Deborah Harry (vocals) with Chris Stein (guitar), Jimmy Destri (keyboards) and Clem Burke (drums). The most successful band of the original NYC punk scene of the late 70's. Blondie began as Angel & The Snake with Fred Smith on bass who would defect the band to join Television. They then adopted NYC scenesters/sisters Snooky & Tish Bellomo to become Blondie & The Banzai Babies. The babies were left behind though and Snooky & Tish went on to form the popular Sic F*cks and created the clothing boutique Manic Panic. Stripped down again, Blondie finally solidified a sound that combined girl group camp with the punk ethic and struck gold. Always one step ahead of everyone else, they broke ground as the first act to take new wave and mix it with disco, reggae, calypso, surf and of course rap, long before anyone else did. Upon their break-up in 1982, the band was still far ahead of their contemporaries. In 1998, the group reformed and released a new album in 1999 that after 17 years picks up exactly where they left off, no nostalgia, just everything that makes Blondie unique. Harry has enjoyed a solo career in both acting and singing. The most consistently successful member of the band has been Clem Burke who went on to drum for Eurythmics, The Romantics and The Plimsouls. 1976-82/1999-present.
