BLACK GRAPE
From Manchester, England. Led by Shaun Ryder (vocals) with Danny Saber (keyboards/ programming). The band started as a sextet, a new vehicle for Ryder whose last band, Happy Mondays obtained legendary status, the kings of the Manchester sound. After problems getting the band into the US because of visa denials for criminal activity, the band primarily stayed home in the UK. By the time of the second album, Ryder fired everyone in the band except for Saber who now has a career as a major remixer/producer. Ryder eventually gave up this project and rejoined with his brother Paul for a new version of Happy Mondays in 1999! 1994-97.
