BIG STAR
From Memphis, Tennessee. Led by the brilliant Alex Chilton (vocals/guitar) with Chris Bell (guitar), Andy Hummel (bass) and Jody Stephens (drums). This power pop band would become a great influence on many of the 80's finest alternative guitar pop bands. Bell left the band and later died in a 1978 car crash. In 1993, the group reformed with Chilton and Stephens joining Ken Stringfellow and John Auer of The Posies for a successful tour! That tour has stretched into many tours and finally resulted in a studio album in 2005. Original bassist Andy Hummel took a career with Lockheed where he became a director of aerospace engineers. On March 17, 2010 Alex Chilton passed away from a heart attack at age 59. Two days later the surviving members played one last scheduled gig in honor of their leader. 1971-74/2005.
