ANIMOTION

From Los Angeles.  Led by Astrid Plane (vocals) and Bill Wadhams (vocals) with Charles Ottavio (bass), Paul Antonelli (keyboards), Don Kirkpatrick (guitar) and Frenchy O'Brien (drums). "Obsession" was originally a song included on the soundtrack to the movie "A Night In Heaven" as performed by the song's authors Holly Knight and Michael DesBarres.  Animotion took this song and scored a heavy hit with it.  The origins of the band came after Plane, who already released a new wave album with her band Red Zone, added Bill Wadhams to help front the band and changed the name. After two albums of capable synthpop, the group split up, sort of.  The lead singers left the band while the supporting players stuck together and enlisted new lead vocalists.  Actress Cynthia Rhodes joined on for vocals, a former dancer for The Tubes and Patrick Swayze's dancing partner in the film "Dirty Dancing".  Also joining on was Paul Engemann of Device.  Surprisingly the band was able to find another hit or two with this line-up despite the drastic change in image and sound.  No more album's followed.  Astrid Plane married Charles Ottavio in 1990, released an album of children's songs sung in a very old 60's folk style, and today has released a new contemporary sounding cd as well.  Wadhams became a graphic designer and plays out with his band Vivid.  After a 14 year hiatus, Animotion (the Plane/Wadhams version) reformed and began to play club dates again in 2001. 1982-1989.
